They are all past Soroptimist Making a Difference for Women recipients!
Recognition Program The Soroptimist Ruby Award: For Women Helping Women (formerly the Making a Difference for Women Award) program acknowledges women who, through their personal or professional activities, are working to improve the lives of other women and girls. Although not Soroptimists, the work of these women helps to promote the issues that are important to the Soroptimist organization.
Honorees are women who have worked in extraordinary ways to benefit women and girls. Examples of the type of work honored include: spearheading an effort to open a domestic violence shelter, starting a mentoring program for at-risk girls, or lobbying companies to provide on-site childcare. The program enables local Soroptimist clubs and the Soroptimist organization to thank these women and encourage others to explore ways to assist women and girls.
As with all Soroptimist award programs it begins at the Greenville Soroptimist club level, with a Certificate of Recognition presented to the winning candidate at the annual Women of Distinction Celebration Tea in March 2012. A cash grant will be be given to the charitable organization of the recipient's choice. The Greenville club's Ruby Award (Making a Difference for Women Award) recipient then advances to the Region level of the Soroptimist organization. One finalist is selected to receive the annual award donation to the charitable organization of her choice. The Region finalist also receives an invitation to accept her award at the South Atlantic Region Conference in May. This year the Greenville club is the host city.
Eligibility Requirements - 2012 Nominations from any of the Six Soroptimist Focus Areas ~ Women who are improving the lives of other women or girls through their professional or personal activities are eligible for the Soroptimist Ruby Award. These women have identified and focused on a need in their communities, which has significantly contributed to the improvement of women and girls’ lives. For 2012, we are seeking women who have focused their efforts in the past two (2) years on any of the following six Soroptimist Focus Areas: Economic and Social Development, Education, Environment, Health, Human Rights/Status of Women, International Goodwill and Understanding - in our communities, locally, nationally and even worldwide.
Although Soroptimist clubs are free to honor a woman for a lifetime of good work, the majority of the work should have occurred within the past two years. Please consider the prestige and recognition this program affords your nominee and complete the enclosed form. We encourage women to nominate yourself, a coworker, someone within your agency, or someone else you feel deserves the recognition. Previous award winners, Soroptimists and Soroptimist employees are not eligible for the award. Previous applicants who have not won the award are encouraged to seek nomination again.
The application period is active. Awards for the Greenville Club will be presented to all winners at the 2012 Upstate Women of Distinction Celebration in March, Greenville SC. Deadline annually for completed essay is December 15. Nomination forms are available here or send an email ATTN: MADFW nomination to soroptimist@gmail.com. Click here for the:
