The Greenville County Women's Hall of Fame (GCWHoF) was founded by the American Association of University Women, Greenville Historical Society, League of Women Voters and Soroptimist International. The Hall of Fame program and induction of new members is administered by Soroptimist International of Greenville.
As of 2007, the GCWHoF has partnered with the Upcountry History Museum in Greenville, SC and is in the initial stages of creating a virtual presence with the museum through their website. The 2007 GCWHoF inductee was Mary Chevilette Simms Oliphant, author and South Carolina historian.
The Criteria for Selection: (not all are required)
• Must be deceased (required) • Association with Greenville County (required) • Been first woman in a successful endeavor • Acheived national or international recognition • Did something inspirational for others, especially other women • Did something unusual or interesting for a woman in her time • Made significant contribution(s) to her community
Nominations may be made at any time year round. Please explain in detail why the nominee meets the above criteria and enclose a copy of the nominee's obituary, if possible. You are required to present, at time of nomination, all support materials you are able to access (there is no minimum or maximum amount at this time.) Photographs are of particular interest. Please include no less than 3 photos of the nominee and any images that support her personal history, as well as, a list of friends, relatives, associates, neighbors who are still living and may be contacted. You will be contacted upon receipt of your nomination. Deadline is December 15, annually for consideration of induction to the Women's Hall of Fame at the upcoming March's Soroptimist Upstate Women of Distinction Celebration Tea.
